IVF questions most couples are too shy to ask
How many cycles? How much will it cost, honestly? Is the failure my fault? The seven questions we get most often at GoodNews IVF.
1. Will it work? Average success rates per cycle are 35–40% under age 35, dropping with age. Most couples succeed within 2–3 cycles; some take longer.
2. How much will it cost? Honest range: ₹1.5–2.5 lakh per cycle including medications. Frozen embryo transfers from a stored cycle are far cheaper.
3. Is the infertility my fault? Roughly 1/3 male factor, 1/3 female factor, 1/3 combined or unexplained. We test both partners on day one.
4. Will my child be different? No. Children born through IVF are no different in health, intelligence, or development.
5. How many embryos will you transfer? Usually one, sometimes two. The age of multi-embryo transfers and risky multiple pregnancies is over.
6. What's the difference between IVF, IUI, ICSI? IUI is simplest — sperm placed in the uterus. IVF involves egg retrieval and fertilisation outside the body. ICSI is IVF where one sperm is injected into one egg, used for severe male factor.
7. How private is it? Completely. Your file, your visits, your scans — all under your name only. Nothing visible to anyone else who walks into the hospital.
